Large diameter seamless steel pipes typically refer to pipes with an outer diameter of 219 mm or larger, and in some cases up to 1020 mm. Compared with standard-size pipes, large-diameter seamless pipes are manufactured using advanced hot rolling or hot expansion processes, which completely eliminate weld seams. This makes them the preferred material for high-pressure, high-temperature, and corrosion-resistant applications in demanding industrial environments.

Manufacturing Process

Hot Rolling
The steel billet is heated to the piercing temperature and then processed through a continuous rolling mill to reduce wall thickness and diameter. The finished product features a dense microstructure and excellent mechanical properties.

Hot Expansion
This process uses an existing seamless pipe as the base material. Through medium-frequency induction heating, the pipe is expanded on an expansion machine using a conical mandrel, enlarging a smaller pipe into a larger diameter pipe.
Hot expansion can produce ultra-large specifications that conventional rolling mills cannot manufacture, typically with an outer diameter of 325 mm-1220 mm and wall thickness up to 200 mm for non-standard sizes.
