TP316 seamless stainless steel pipe offers excellent corrosion resistance and strength for chemical, marine, food, and petrochemical applications. Manufactured to ASTM A312, A213, and EN 10216-5 standards with customizable sizes and finishes.
Contact USTP316 seamless stainless steel tube is a classic product belonging to the austenitic stainless steel family. Compared with 304 stainless steel, it provides superior corrosion resistance. Thanks to its excellent machinability and mechanical strength, TP316 seamless pipes are widely used in petroleum, chemical processing, marine engineering, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
| Element | C | Mn | Si | P | S | Cr | Ni | Mo | |
| TP316 | ≤0.08 | ≤2.00 | ≤1.00 | ≤0.045 | ≤0.030 | 16.0-18.0 | 10.0-14.0 | 2.0-3.0 |
The most significant feature of TP316's chemical composition is the addition of molybdenum (Mo), typically ranging from 2% to 3%, which distinguishes it from 304 stainless steel. The presence of molybdenum significantly enhances the steel's resistance to chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion.
A related grade is TP316L (L stands for low carbon). TP316L reduces the carbon content to below 0.03%, improving weldability and reducing the risk of carbide precipitation during welding, thereby enhancing resistance to intergranular corrosion in welded areas.
Standard TP316 typically contains less than 0.08% carbon, maintaining good corrosion resistance while providing relatively higher high-temperature strength.

1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance
TP316 stainless steel pipes offer outstanding resistance to pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride environments. Therefore, they are commonly used in marine engineering, chemical equipment, and salt-processing industries.
2. Good High-Temperature and Low-Temperature Performance
The material maintains a stable austenitic structure even in high-temperature environments and exhibits good oxidation resistance. The recommended service temperature range can cover −270°C to 450°C or higher, depending on the specific application. It also retains excellent toughness at low temperatures, making it suitable for demanding operating conditions.
3. High Strength Due to Seamless Structure
Seamless pipes are manufactured as a single continuous structure without welded joints. This provides superior pressure resistance, fatigue resistance, and structural reliability, making them suitable for high-pressure and critical pipeline systems.
4. Excellent Processability
TP316 stainless steel offers good cold and hot working properties. It can be processed through bending, flaring, reducing, and welding, allowing it to meet complex equipment design requirements.
5. High Precision and Cleanliness
The seamless structure eliminates potential weak points caused by weld seams and ensures a smooth inner surface. After bright annealing or pickling passivation, the internal surface roughness (Ra) can be controlled at a very low level, effectively preventing medium residue and microbial growth.
6. Safety and Hygiene
Due to its stable, non-toxic, and corrosion-resistant material properties, TP316 seamless stainless steel pipes are widely used in food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and sanitary fluid transport systems.
The manufacturing process of TP316 seamless steel pipes eliminates welding, employing a combination of hot rolling (extrusion) and cold drawing (rolling). The billet is first pierced and heated, then its outer diameter is reduced through hot extrusion, followed by multiple passes of cold drawing or cold rolling depending on precision requirements. For high-demand applications (such as nuclear power or precision instruments), processes like vacuum induction melting combined with electroslag remelting are also used to ensure the purity and uniformity of the steel's microstructure.

TP316 seamless pipes mainly follow standards issued by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and also comply with Chinese national standards:
ASTM A312 / A312M – The most widely used standard for seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel pipes for general corrosive and high-temperature service.
ASTM A213 / A213M – Seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy steel tubes for boilers, superheaters, and heat exchangers.
EN 10216-5 – European standard for stainless steel pipes used in pressure applications.
DIN 17456 / DIN 17458 – German standards for stainless steel pipes.
GB/T 14976 – Chinese national standard for stainless steel seamless pipes used in fluid transportation.
Marine Engineering
Used in offshore platform pipelines, seawater desalination equipment, and ship exhaust gas scrubbing systems.
Chemical and Petrochemical Industry
Used for reactors and pipelines transporting highly corrosive chemicals such as acetic acid and phosphoric acid.
Pharmaceutical Industry
Applied in complex API transportation systems to ensure that the medium is not contaminated by metal ions.
Food Industry
Particularly suitable for production lines handling high-chloride seasonings or fruit juice processing systems.
