As one of the widely used stainless steel materials in seawater desalination systems, TP316L Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe (ASTM A312 TP316L Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe) offers strong corrosion resistance, excellent weldability, and stable mechanical properties. It is an important component in reverse osmosis (RO) desalination systems, pretreatment systems, and fresh-water transmission systems, helping ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of desalination plants.
HAOMEI seamless stainless steel pipes have been exported to the Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia, and a number of coastal countries and regions. They are widely recognized and trusted by international customers.

TP316L generally refers to 316L-grade stainless steel pipe manufactured in accordance with relevant ASTM or ASME standards. "TP" is commonly used to identify the pipe product grade, as in ASTM A312 TP316L seamless stainless steel pipe.
The letter "L" in 316L stands for low carbon content. The low-carbon design helps reduce the risk of intergranular corrosion after welding. Therefore, TP316L is highly suitable for engineering applications requiring on-site welding, long-term service, and enhanced corrosion resistance.
Compared with common austenitic stainless steels such as 304 and 304L, TP316L typically contains molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum improves the material's resistance to pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion in certain chloride-containing environments. This makes it more suitable for humid, salt-spray, chemical-processing, and marine auxiliary environments where corrosion resistance is required.
Seamless stainless steel pipes are manufactured through integral hot-rolled or cold-rolled forming processes. Their weld-free structure provides higher pressure resistance and better structural uniformity, helping reduce leakage risks and supporting the long-term stable operation of seawater desalination systems.
TP316L seamless stainless steel pipes can be manufactured in accordance with international standards including ASTM A312, ASTM A213, and ASTM A269. Customized production is available with outer diameters ranging from 6 mm to 830 mm and wall thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 60 mm, meeting the needs of applications ranging from precision instrument tubing to large-diameter transmission pipelines in desalination projects.
To meet the requirements of international seawater desalination projects, seamless stainless steel pipes can be manufactured in accordance with the following standards:
ASTM A312
ASTM A213
ASTM A269
ASTM A790
ASME SA312
EN 10216-5
DIN Standards
JIS Standards
Classification society certificates, including ABS, CCS, LR, and DNV, can also be provided upon customer request.
TP316L seamless stainless steel pipe offers several important advantages in seawater desalination plants.
Enhanced Resistance to Seawater Corrosion
The addition of molybdenum significantly improves the material's resistance to chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion. This allows TP316L pipes to perform reliably in high-salinity seawater-related environments when properly selected according to actual service conditions.
Excellent Weldability
The low-carbon composition reduces carbide precipitation during welding and lowers the risk of intergranular corrosion. This makes TP316L easier to install, weld, repair, and maintain on site.
Good Mechanical Properties
TP316L combines good strength, toughness, and ductility. It can maintain stable performance under pressure transmission conditions and in complex operating environments.
Longer Service Life
With its corrosion-resistant properties, TP316L seamless stainless steel pipe can help extend the service life of desalination system pipelines and reduce total life-cycle maintenance costs.
Clean and Hygienic Material
TP316L stainless steel does not contaminate the conveyed medium, making it suitable for fresh-water transmission and drinking-water treatment systems. It meets modern environmental protection and hygiene requirements.
