The 2 inch SCH 80 316L seamless stainless steel pipe is an industrial piping product manufactured from 316L low-carbon austenitic stainless steel. It offers excellent corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, and reliable pressure-bearing performance. It is widely used in shipbuilding, offshore engineering, chemical processing equipment, oil and gas systems, pharmaceutical production, food processing, and industrial fluid transportation.
The pipe dimensions, including outside diameter and wall thickness, are determined in accordance with relevant standards such as ASME B36.19M. Material and manufacturing acceptance can be carried out in accordance with ASTM A312/A312M, depending on project requirements.
A 2 inch pipe corresponds to the nominal pipe size NPS 2, while Schedule 80 refers to the SCH 80 wall thickness class. Compared with thinner wall thickness schedules such as SCH 10S and SCH 40S, SCH 80 pipes feature a thicker wall and are more suitable for applications requiring higher mechanical strength and pressure resistance.
316L stainless steel has a lower carbon content than standard 316 stainless steel. This low-carbon composition helps reduce the risk of sensitization and intergranular corrosion during welding. Even though the pipe is manufactured using a seamless process, the material remains highly suitable for subsequent piping installation, welding, connection, and long-term system operation.

316L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel grade. Compared with standard 316 stainless steel, its lower carbon content effectively reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion after welding. The addition of molybdenum provides improved corrosion resistance in chloride-containing environments, acidic media, and marine atmospheres.
1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance
316L stainless steel provides good resistance to many organic acids, inorganic acids, alkaline solutions, and salt-spray environments. Compared with 304 and 304L stainless steel, 316L offers better service life in seawater, coastal areas, chloride-containing media, and chemical corrosion environments.
2. Good Weldability
The low-carbon design makes 316L seamless pipes less susceptible to intergranular corrosion during welding, installation, and further fabrication. It is especially suitable for on-site welding and complex piping system construction.
3. High Pressure-Bearing Capability
The SCH 80 wall thickness provides strong mechanical properties and reliable pressure resistance. It is suitable for high-pressure liquid, gas, steam, and process media transportation systems.
4. Good Hygienic and Cleanability Performance
After pickling and passivation, bright annealing, or internal and external surface polishing, the pipe surface is clean, contamination-resistant, and easy to clean. It can be used in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and purified water systems.
5. Long Service Life and Low Maintenance Cost
316L seamless stainless steel pipes are resistant to corrosion and oxidation and are less likely to accumulate scale. Under demanding service conditions, they can reduce maintenance downtime and replacement frequency, providing strong overall economic value.
SCH is the abbreviation for "Schedule," which is used to indicate the wall thickness classification of pipes.
For a 2 inch stainless steel pipe, SCH 80S has an outside diameter of 60.3 mm and a standard wall thickness of 5.54 mm.
Compared with SCH 40S, SCH 80S has a thicker pipe wall and therefore offers better performance under internal pressure, mechanical impact, vibration loads, and high-temperature operating conditions. The actual working pressure should be professionally calculated based on the medium, operating temperature, applicable design code, corrosion allowance, and system safety factor.
For high-pressure piping projects requiring long-term stable operation, 2 inch SCH 80 316L seamless stainless steel pipe is a reliable choice for improving the safety and durability of the piping system.
Marine engineering, offshore platforms, seawater pipelines, and ship piping systems
Petrochemical plants, refineries, hydrogenation units, and corrosive media transportation
Pharmaceutical, food and beverage, biotechnology, and sanitary fluid piping systems
