CCS, BV, ABS Certified Marine Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

Marine seamless stainless steel pipe refers to stainless steel pipes manufactured through hot rolling, cold drawing, or cold rolling processes without welding seams, specifically designed for piping systems in ships and offshore engineering equipment.

These pipes are typically made from austenitic, duplex, or heat-resistant stainless steels such as 304, 316L, 321, 316Ti, and S31803, and are widely used in high-pressure and high-temperature fluid transport systems in marine environments.

To ensure material quality and operational safety, the international shipbuilding industry usually requires pipes to obtain certifications from recognized classification societies such as CCS (China Classification Society), BV (Bureau Veritas), and ABS (American Bureau of Shipping).

Seamless stainless steel pipes manufactured by HAOMEI can obtain these certifications, ensuring excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and long-term reliability in harsh marine environments.

Common International Standards

ASTM A312 – Standard specification for seamless stainless steel pipe

ASTM A213 – Stainless steel pipes for boilers and heat exchangers

ASTM A269 – Stainless steel tubing for general service

EN 10216-5 – European standard for seamless stainless steel pipes

Main Features of Marine Seamless Stainless Steel Pipes

1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance

Marine environments contain high concentrations of chloride ions, which are highly corrosive to metals. Stainless steels, especially 316L, 317L, and duplex stainless steel, provide outstanding resistance to seawater corrosion, significantly extending pipeline service life.

2. High Strength and Pressure Resistance

The seamless structure eliminates weld joints, improving structural integrity and allowing the pipe to withstand high-pressure working conditions safely.

3. Stable Mechanical Properties and Fatigue Resistance

After solution heat treatment, the material achieves an optimal balance of strength, toughness, and ductility, enabling it to withstand vibration, impact, and cyclic loads during ship operation without cracking or deformation.

4. High Dimensional Accuracy and Strong Adaptability

The pipes feature precise outer diameter, wall thickness, and straightness tolerances. Surface pickling and passivation treatments ensure good smoothness, making them suitable for welding, bending, and flange connections, and compatible with various ship piping installation standards.

5. Excellent High-Temperature Performance

Certain ship systems transport high-temperature media such as steam or exhaust gases. Stainless steel seamless pipes maintain stable mechanical performance even under high-temperature conditions.

6. Environmentally Friendly

Stainless steel is fully recyclable and complies with marine environmental protection regulations.

Applications of Marine Grade Seamless Stainless Steel Pipes

  • Main Application Scenarios

  • Power Systems
Pipelines for engine cooling water, fuel, and lubricating oil transportation.

  • Steam Systems
Steam delivery and recovery pipelines requiring high temperature resistance and corrosion protection.

  • Drainage and Sewage Systems
Ship drainage and rainwater collection pipelines.

  • Chemical Cargo Pipelines
Used on chemical tankers to transport corrosive media such as acids, alkalis, and solvents.

  • Structural Support Pipelines
Support structures, pipe racks, and brackets inside ship hulls.

Manufacturing Process of Seamless Stainless Steel Pipes

Marine seamless stainless steel pipes are typically produced through hot rolling (extrusion/expansion) or cold drawing/rolling processes.

Typical Manufacturing Process

  1. Billet Preparation
Strict control of chemical composition to ensure material quality.

  2. Heating and Piercing
Round steel billets are heated to high temperatures and pierced to form hollow tubes.

  3. Pickling and Grinding
    Pickling with a specific acid mixture (e.g., HF:HNO₃:H₂O = 1:1:10) at 60°C – 80°C removes oxide scale and ensures a clean surface.

  4. Cold Rolling / Cold Drawing
Multiple cold processing passes ensure precise dimensional accuracy and improved surface quality.

  5. Solution Heat Treatment
A critical process in stainless steel pipe production. The pipes are heated to 1050°C – 1180°C and rapidly cooled, dissolving carbides completely and forming a uniform austenitic or duplex structure, thereby restoring corrosion resistance and ductility.
